Blessing Okagbare Bids For Diamond League Glory

The Diamond League comes to a close on Friday as Brussels hosts the second of the two finals of the 2014 series.

The Diamond Race champions for eight of the 16 disciplines are already decided. However, the athletes must compete in their discipline in Brussels to secure the $40,000 (£24,500) bonus and the Diamond Race trophy.

Among the disciplines still to be decided is the women's 200m with American Allyson Felix up against Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare.Just two points separate Felix, the four-time Olympic champion, from Commonwealth Games champion Okagbare, with whichever athlete crosses the line first becoming the Diamond Race winner.

Although not in contention to win the Diamond Race, Dutch sprinter Dafne Schippers will be contesting her first 200m since winning the sprint double at the European Championships. In her last encounter with Felix and Okagbare at the Diamond League in Glasgow, Schippers came out on top, while Britain's Jodie Williams is also in action.

The men's high jump is also a two-man battle between Ukraine's Bohdan Bondarenko and Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar with both eyeing Javier Sotomayor's world record of 2.45m.

Both pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie of France and New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adamsare on the verge of creating history, having already secured the Diamond Race title for their respective events. The Frenchman will become the only athlete to win five Diamond Race trophies, having won the event each year since its inauguration in 2010, while Adams is the only athlete to win all seven Diamond League fixtures for any discipline.

Among the other Britons in action are a trio of European champions -James Dasaolu(100m), Eilidh Child(400m hurdles) and Lynsey Sharp(800m).
